Aldershot v Oxford United Monday 1st April
It was a big day for Aldershot Town FC on Monday 1st April as the new '1992 Community Stand' was officially opened. This ambitious project, driven by Paul Marcus (MD of Eagle Radio), is a unique venture in the football league. The free community tickets are only available through the club and are sponsored by local benefactors and companies.
The stand provides a great opportunity for the club to reach into the wider community and support individuals, organisations and charities who would ordinarily find it difficult to see Aldershot Town FC play. The Abbey were delighted to have been invited to the opening of the stand, and were given a fantastic 50 tickets to make it a really special school community occasion. It was great to see so many of our extended family under one roof, including students past and present, parents, carers, brothers, sisters, staff and governors all enjoying themselves.
The day itself was bitterly cold but the presence of The Abbey clearly made all the difference to Aldershot, who clinched a last minute winner much to the delight of all!
Many thanks go to Paul Marcus for helping to make this such a special day, to all our families who arrived so promptly for the opening, and to Sarah Woolins in the office for coordinating the ticket allocation.
We hope to be able to offer further opportunities to support Aldershot Town FC in the near future and further details will follow over the coming weeks.
