Life after The Abbey/Careers Information, Advice & Guidance (CIAG)
The Abbey School is committed to providing excellent Careers Information, Advice, and Guidance for our students (CIAG).
“TO BE A RESPONSIBLE MEMBER OF THE COMMUNITY,
WITH THE SKILLS AND UNDERSTANDING TO BE
A VALUABLE AND VALUED CITIZEN.”
It is hugely important that students are given the skills and understanding to apply what they have learned to either further education or the work place and the role of Information and Guidance is something that is a priority at the Abbey. Through tutor time sessions, PSHE lessons and assemblies, along with a series of other interventions, students are taught skills that will allow them to be in the best possible position to be a ‘valued and valuable citizen’.
On their journey through the Abbey students will receive a number of opportunities to explore their strengths and will be given advice on the types of courses or training programmes that are available to them. In year 10, students receive career guidance in the form of a 1-1 careers interview with a trained member of staff. They will also undertake a period of work experience, allowing them to engage with working people in a variety of different placements. At KS4 our links with Alton and Farnborough College allow students to make a smooth transition to college life by showing them what to expect when they move on to KS5.
The school's careers lead, Richard Gregory, can be contacted at the school - 01252 725059 or via email:
