Behind the Hoardings - You've been framed!

View Images

As anyone who has visited the school over the last month will know, the steel frame for the sports hall is now in place! The four huge Glulam beams we mentioned in last month’s blog can be clearly seen at the top of the structure. During our visit blockwork was being laid by the construction workers to build the sports hall walls. In the pictures you can see the internal scaffolding used by workers to stand on. As the walls become higher the scaffolding is raised so they can reach the next levels.

Equally interesting to see were the four new classrooms, toilet facilities and connecting corridor to the main school building. The high ceiling in the connecting corridor looks a particularly exciting feature, and will no doubt provide a focal point of light and space as you enter the new building from the long KS3 walkway.

Perhaps the biggest transformation of this visit was to the large new food technology room. Almost an empty shell 5 weeks ago, it will now be complete as you are reading this, in time for the start of school after autumn half term. A team of specialist fitters were very busy in the room installing extraction fans, ovens, hobs and sinks during the visit, and we made sure we didn’t get in their way!

Project 22 is a multiphase initiative, and it was great to see work has begun in preparation for the new Design Technology room, with walls being stripped and protective hoardings now in place. These developments bring fresh challenges to all involved in the project both on the construction and education side, but everyone is working extremely hard to ensure the safety and continued uninterrupted learning of the students remains the absolute priority.

Thanks to O&D Construction who continue to make this blog possible. As always the site had a busy, productive, and positive atmosphere and the team were happy to explain the latest developments to us.
